So why are romance books so popular? The appeal goes well beyond any one trope—or spice level.

Romance gives us people to root for. We get the anticipation, the awkward moments, the misunderstandings, and the moment someone finally says what we’ve been waiting to hear.

At the heart of a genre romance is a central love story and an emotionally satisfying, optimistic ending. The journey can be messy, but that promise is part of the pleasure.

Sometimes you want a story that reminds you that connection is possible, second chances exist, and people can find their way to each other.

There’s a reading escape for almost every mood

Some days call for a cozy small town and a grumpy neighbor. Others call for magic, danger, and a love interest with questionable decision-making skills.

Romance offers many ways into a story: humor, suspense, history, fantasy, or the familiar complications of everyday life.
